Divisor

M. Rephun (c) May 19, 2008

There is a great space between the earth and sky
An emptiness, between the You-and-I
Between what we had once, and have no more
The tattered prophet knocking in the rain
Came one night, and will not come again.

There is an emptiness in every song
And one that makes its passage through the years
Suspends the hours, like a magic bell
Divides them up so that I cannot tell
Just when you were near and you were gone.

Magician

M. Rephun (c) May 12, 2008magician

He clapped his hands
And the earth spun
He took delight in creation
Like a giant orgasm
The beasts, and the men in loincloths became his playthings
He dove to the low depths, where none could see him
Save the octopi, and the squids with dinner-plate eyes
Now he sits, tornadoes whirling in his beard
Smiling, eyes closed
In his great heart
He feels a pang of regret for the old days
When a magician could run without being looked for
Some day, he thinks, he will have to do it over
